Goals

Our main goal was to develop a website that would appeal to employees at our corporate offices as well as our factories and other locations around the country. The executives and CEO of the company really needed to show our parent company in Japan that we were ready to take on a very difficult economy (this was right after the 2008 crash). A number of print materials were placed around the different Olympus offices and other locations to drive traffic to the site. All top-level executives were then given a "Strategic Cube", which, on each face of the cube, contained 1 of the 6 focus areas of the plan.

How it was Done

This project included video interviews with all of the major executives at Olympus, a "walk-out" video of our CEO Mark Gumz, standing on the main page, and a beautiful design from our creative team. Chad Smith provided all of the Flash and video content, while Chris McGinnis handed over a beautiful PSD.

I used classic ASP to build a quick sub procedure structure in an includes file. The sidebar and header live in the includes file to provide for quick and easy updating of site-wide content. The Flash had to be tweaked a bit on the front page, as Mark was filmed on a green screen and chroma keyed. In other sections of the site the interviews were dynamically pulled out of XML files by defining page variables in a quick ASP script:

<%if lcase(request.servervariables("path_info")) = "/home.asp" then
	whoami = "home"
elseif lcase(request.servervariables("path_info")) = "/csp.asp" then
	whoami = "csp"
end if%>

I don't usually like to build sites without some sort of content management system, but it was nice to put this page together and get build my ASP skills. The rest of the project was pretty straight forward. I sketched out the XHTML in about an hour and the CSS came naturally. The copy has been removed so The Man doesn't come after me.
